McColl brings her extensive knowledge of the poem's history to her new publication Twas The Night - The Art and History of the Classic Christmas Poem, McColl studied art and history and went on to do graduate work in cultural history before working as a corporate art consultant for twenty years. "Working on the history of this immensely popular poem was a labor of love that took over ten years to complete and involved traveling to view the major collections in America, and multiple archives and museums. "
"I have enjoyed this poem throughout my life and can not imagine a Christmas Eve without reading it aloud. It is considered the most famous poem in the library of English literature because it is so easy to remember and recite and charming."
"I thoroughly enjoyed spending time researching biography of Clement Clarke Moore. His family roots are traceable to the early settlers to America. Clement Clarke Moore's biographical commentary that I wrote for the book reveals details of his life and times that have not been compiled before. I found and published to the book the only photograph known to exist of the "Poet of Christmas Eve".
"Spending time in 18th. and 19th. century American cultural history was fascinating and I hope readers of my book will find the literary excerpts and rarely seen vintage images enjoyable. Washington Irving, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Mark Twain and so many others are represented in the book and for their contribution to Christmas literature."
" The story fo the poem is also the story of the rise of Christmas celebrations and traditions in America. The story outlines the way Christmas literature and art developed over the past two centuries and the important role the poem had in inspiring great works of art by the likes of Andy Warhol, N.C. Wyeth and Norman Rockwell." - Pamela McColl
"The poem was read aloud by Clement Clarke Moore to his children on Christmas Eve 1822. This is well established by the evidence and it is undisputed. Whether or not Moore wrote the poem has been the subject of discussion and debate. However, no evidence has surfaced that would prove beyond doubt that he is indeed "The Poet of Christmas Eve". Pamela McColl is available for interviews in celebration of the poem's bicentennial to discuss the poem's history, the life and biography of Clement Clarke Moore and the publishers and illustrators of the poem and to discuss the growth of the poem's popularity. She is also a collector of the poem and can speak to other collections and valuations of specific editions.
